What do the sacrifices our troops make overseas mean to you? The Iraq and Afghan conflicts are some of the nation’s longest-running wars, and some soldiers have done 3 or 4 tours of duty to help the American objectives. How do you show your respect?
Memorial Day 2012, May 28th
Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on May 5, 1862, and was originally called Decoration Day. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance of those who have given their lives to serve our country and a day of thanks to those currently fighting for our freedom.
Memorial Day is now celebrated on the last Monday in May of each year and is a national holiday.
The tradition of Memorial Day is to lay flowers on the graves of those who have given their lives, fly the nation’s flag and thank a veteran or soldier, but also a time for us to remember that freedom doesn’t come free.
On this Memorial Day and every other day, we thank you, veterans and soldiers for all the sacrifices you’ve made.
