On Saturday, a group of truck drivers and the Laramie County Sheriff’s Department will partner to break the Guinness World Book of Records number for the most trucks driving in the world’s longest convoy.

The Laramie County Sheriff’s Department will lend a hand and will be escorting the trucks.

So far, 2,000 truck drivers from all over North America have signed up to participate.  The drivers are trying to do more then just break a record, they’re also raising money for the Special Olympics.  The funds the drivers raise will go to year-around training programs and competitions for those with special needs.

“As far as Cheyenne goes, several of the truck drivers that attend every year have gotten to know law officers,” Tedy Harbaugh, the liaison between the Special Olympics and the Laramie County Sheriff’s Department told the Wyoming Sun Tribune. “Then truckers tell their friends and they show up. And we have a big barbecue afterwards and they all celebrate together. It’s a win-win for all three organizations.”

Drivers who participate in the program and who have extra room in their trucks will have Special Olympics athletes accompanying them.

Drivers, if you’re in the area and you want to participate, “Trucks will assemble at the Park-N-Ride located off Interstate 25 and Happy Jack Road and will convoy around Del Range Boulevard in Cheyenne. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Cheyenne Frontier Days parking lot,” the Sun Tribune reported.
