Researcher Distances Himself from Speed Limiter Study

One of the researchers who worked on a study for the FMCSA disagrees with the published result that shows a strong significant benefit for speed limiters.
Steven Johnson, researcher and professor at the Mack-Blackwell Transportation Institute at the University of Arkansas, is preparing a rebuttal to the final report prepared by MainWay Services for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Johnson says he will publish his rebuttal in the form of a white paper.
The initial draft of the report in December 2010 was inconclusive about the safety benefits of speed limiters, but the final report published in March 2012 was a glowing endorsement.
Johnson says this is different from his conclusions and that he wants his name removed from the study.
