Colorado Rest Area Closing For The Winter On September 14, the Virginia Dale rest area, located on US 287 at MM 383 in Colorado, will close for the winter.

Because of its proximity to the Colorado/Wyoming border, the rest area is a poplar stopping point for motorists.

The rest area is typically opens just before Memorial Day– weather permitting– and closes just after Labor Day.

“Given the fact that Colorado’s weather is unpredictable, it is necessary to close the rest area before the first snow and winter temperatures arrive to prevent water lines from freezing,” said CDOT Maintenance Supervisor Tom Aguilar. “When the spring temperatures warm up and there is no longer a risk of the lines freezing, we will reopen the rest area.”
