Truck driver Hamed E. Nahi Alsaady was killed Friday on I-35W and 66th Street S. in Richfield, Minnesota when he was struck by a distracted driver. Alsasdy had pulled over on the side of the highway to check a blown-out tire.
According to police reports, the driver drifted right, outside of the lane, and hit Alsaady and his truck.
“Lt. Eric Roeske of the state patrol confirmed that by email Sunday, adding: ’The driver was not arrested at the scene. Once the investigation is complete the case will be forwarded to the county attorney to review for any possible felony charges, if no felony charges are filed it will be sent to the city attorney to review for misdemeanor or gross misdemeanor charges,’” the Fridley Patch reported.
The Patch reported that Alsaady drove for Triple Crown Services out of Indiana.
Drivers, you all know how dangerous the shoulder of the highway can be, but did you know that approximately 12% of all interstate highway deaths are pedestrians in the roadway or on the shoulder?
Here are some ways to stay safe on the shoulder of the road:
* Use stop or flash sticks to alert drivers of your presence on the shoulder.
* If you can, proceed to an off ramp.
* Use orange, reflective warning triangles.
