Pilot Flying J Race CAr Some familiar faces will appear at Pilot locations across Knox County this week. Nearly 70 elected officials and media personalities will help Pilot support the United Way of Greater Knoxville during the annual Pilot Celebrity Pumpers event. These “celebrities” will be pumping gas for customers Monday through Wednesday, Oct. 1-3.

During the three-day event, Pilot donates to the United Way of Greater Knoxville 5 cents for every gallon of gasoline sold and 10 cents for every dollar of in-store sales at all Knox County locations.

“The United Way makes a huge impact in our community, and this annual event provides an easy and affordable way for people to support the cause,” said Pilot Founder and Chairman James A. Haslam II. “Individuals can help by simply filling up their gas tanks or picking up some groceries during Pilot Celebrity Pumpers.”

Pilot Celebrity Pumpers is the single largest special event fundraiser for the United Way of Greater Knoxville’s annual campaign. The 2011 event raised $63,500.

Celebrity pumpers this year include Pilot Flying J NASCAR driver Michael Annett, University of Tennessee Athletic Director Dave Hart, U.S. Olympic gold medalist swimmer Davis Tarwater, Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett, along with a host of other state and local officials and local television and radio personalities. For a complete listing of celebrity pumper times and locations, visit the Media Room at http://www.moxleycarmichael.com.

“Pilot Celebrity Pumpers wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of so many elected officials and other celebrities who are willing to donate their time for a great cause,” Haslam said. “Of course, we also depend on – and appreciate – our loyal customers who stop by Pilot to show their support and make this United Way donation possible.”
