HireRite Solutions Pays Hefty Fine For FTC Violations

Published:

HireRite Solutions Pays Hefty Fine For DAC Errors?HireRite Solutions of Tulsa, Oklahoma has agreed to pay a $2.6 million fine for numerous violations under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.  HireRite Solutions is used by many carriers as an employment screening resource and is a well-known company.

According to Land Line Magazine, HireRite Solutions paid the fine the same day the complaint was filed with the FTC.

“Mitchell J. Katz, senior public affairs specialist at the Federal Trade Commission, told Land Line that ‘thousands’ of consumers were affected because of inaccuracies on their criminal background reports, commonly referred to in the trucking industry as DAC reports,” the magazine reported.

According to the Bureau of Consumer Protection, the FTC investigation dates back three years.

HireRite Solutions must now comply with the FTC and maintain accurate records.

“We determined that they failed to ensure accurate information, they failed to provide notices and they failed to conduct proper investigations when consumers tried to dispute information,” Anthony Rodriguez of the Bureau of Consumer Protection for the FTC said.

The FTC said that HireRite Solutions failed to take responsible steps when reporting to carriers about an applicant’s record, and that the company did not maintain current employee reports and check for things such as expungements.

Drivers, if you feel that there are inaccuracies on your DAC, that may or many not have prevented your employment, you are urged to contact the Federal Trade Commission.
