Maryland City To Crackdown On Illegal Truck Parking

On Friday, troopers in Baltimore will begin cracking down on trucks parked along Interstate 83.

According to the Baltimore Sun, troopers will be enforcing a “zero tolerance policy” for trucks parked on the shoulders of the interstate.

Those found illegally parked will face a $60 fine.

“The enforcement efforts will be conducted by troopers from the state police Golden Ring Barrack and will focus on the stretch of I-83 between the Pennsylvania line and I-695, police said,” the Baltimore Sun reported.

The shortage of available truck parking has become an increasing problem for drivers across the country.  Drivers often have to chose to violate the HOS regulations, park in an unsafe area or pay a fine for parking illegally.

The Baltimore Sun reported, “The State Highway Administration recently won a $2.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for an $8 million project to nearly triple the number of truck parking spaces at the Interstate 95 South Welcome Center in Howard County, from 21 spaces to 61. The work is expected to begin in the spring and take about a year, said Charlie Gischlar, an SHA spokesman.

For drivers who are forced to park in unsafe areas, the addition of available truck parking can’t come soon enough.
