Howell Rest Area The Howell Rest Area on westbound Interstate-96 is scheduled to close its doors permanently on Monday, October 8.

The rest area offered 21 truck parking spots.

According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the rest area’s closure is due to the proximity of the new interchange and ramp that is scheduled to begin construction this fall.

The rest area’s closure means the nearest rest area will be in Okemos.
