Trucker Buddy Int’l Names 2012 Ambassador of the Year Posthumously

The board of directors and ambassadors of Trucker Buddy International have announced that the Ambassador of the Year award has been named posthumously for  Darrell Hicks, the long-time Trucker Buddy board member, advisor and ambassador  known as Uncle Darrel.  Hicks passed away from a long battle with lung disease in July 2012.

“Uncle Darrell was a special person and is missed by all of us.  Naming this award after him is a testimony to the many lives he touched with class and respect. He chose the Arkansas School for the Blind for his Trucker Buddy class.  His work with those blind students actually gave us insight into the life of Uncle Darrell and why the award is so appropriate,” said Randy Schwartzenburg, Executive Director.

Darrell Hicks was an original board member of Trucker Buddy when the organization became a certified 501.0.3 non-profit.  He lead the organization as President through many tough times and always remained firm belief that Trucker Buddy can change lives of drivers and improve the image of the trucking industry.

He later became the only non-driver Ambassador and even put his special touch on that program more than 26 years, Hicks served his employer Penray as a  expert.  He was a loyal and active member of the Technology and Maintenance Council of ATA, where he received such distinguished awards as the Silver Sparkplug and the Gerri Murphy Membership Award.
