YRC Settles Multi-Million Dollar Harassment Suit

For the second time in two years, YRC has settled a multi-million dollar harassment lawsuit.  On Friday, YRC settled an $11 million dollar lawsuit with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for the harassment of black workers.

Two years ago, YRC settled a similar suit with the EEOC on behalf of black workers for $10 million.

However, YRC neither denies or admits to the claims.

According to the EEOC, their department tried to settle the disputes with YRC before filing federal suits.

Nearly 600 current and former black YRC employees will potentially share the $21 million.

The South Town Star reported, “The EEOC alleged in both lawsuits that black employees at the three terminals were threatened with hangman’s nooses made of twine and death threats scrawled on bathroom walls. The commission also alleged that work teams at terminals were segregated by race, with black employees given more physically demanding work than their white co-workers. Although black employees lodged complaints with their supervisors, the company failed to take action, the EEOC said.”
