Truck Drivers WalMart Education CharityHOPKINSVILLE, KY (10/30/12) — It’s called “Safe Miles Invested in Local Education.” Its joint objective: safe driving and money for schools during this period of time leading up to the start of a new school year for millions of students across the country.

Walmart’s Private Fleet truck drivers are among the safest professional drivers in the country. During the week of August 11 through August 17, 2012 the Walmart Foundation will make a financial contribution to a local school for each accident-free mile driven by each of the company’s 7,200 tractor trailer drivers. During last year’s program, Walmart transportation offices nationwide contributed more than $130,000 to schools in their communities.

The Walmart transportation office in Hopkinsville has chosen Sinking Fork Elementary to receive a $1869.56 donation.

“Safe Miles Invested in Local Education is just one of the many ways Walmart supports education across the country,” said Jack Smith, general transportation manager at the Hopkinsville, Kentucky Walmart distribution center. “It’s also a great way to engage all of our drivers in raising money for our local schools.

“This program serves as a great reminder to each of us that children are returning to classes and all drivers need to watch carefully for school buses and school children,” he added.

Walmart’s Private Fleet is one of the largest in the United States and with 11,000 associates, including more than 7,200 drivers. Walmart Transportation supports more than 4,500 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations in the United States.
