A Lexington, South Carolina woman has been arrested and charged with embezzling nearly $300,000 from Southern Freight Lines.

Authorities say Lori M. Caldwell, 39,  embezzled $284,491 of Southeastern Freight Lines’ money into her own checking account between 2008 and 2012, the Lexington Patch reported.

Caldwell worked as a human resource manager for the trucking firm.  Part of her work responsibility included managing the company’s advertisements in trucking magazines.

Caldwell constructed fake invoices for the advertisements, then submitted them for payment.  According to police reports, Caldwell would then deposit the payments into her account.

The trucking company’s accounting department noticed something was amiss and turned over their findings to the the company’s legal department who then turned their findings over to the county’s police department.

“Caldwell turned herself in Friday on a charge of breach of trust with fraudulent intent involving more than $10,000, according to sheriff’s department. The charge is a felony with a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison,” the Patch reported.
