Alan Jackson has been on the country music scene for nearly three decades and has had more than 50 Billboard hits and 35 number-one hits.
Jackson often sings songs about heartache ”I love them old heartache songs,” Jackson told the crowd at LP Field, as he played during CMA Music Festival’s closing night concert. “I always loved writing ‘em and singing ‘em.”
Jackson’s new album Thirty Miles West was released in June, and his song about heartache “So You Don’t Have To Love Me Anymore” has been sitting pretty on CMT’s Top 20 list since its release earlier this year. The song was co-written by Jackson and his nephew Adam Wright.
“It raised the hair on my arms when I heard the demo,” he says. “It’s the kind of song that made me want to be in country music. I’m such a big fan of that kind of song. Sad songs, break-up songs and heartache songs are always the best ones to bring that emotion out … people are comparing it to a new ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today.’ I wouldn’t want to put myself in that category with George Jones, but it is a great song.”
