We’re back with another entry in our long-running article series “Truck Driver Songs.” Here we recount some of the greatest songs of the open road that sing the praises of the great American trucker. We feature rock and country tunes from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and on.

We’re featuring a song by country favorite Jason Aldean from just a few years ago. You don’t really hear that many songs about trucking in these modern times. The heyday for the trucking industry seemed to be the 70s, when everyone wanted to write a song, create a movie or chatter on the CB radio. There are precious few in music keeping an eye on truck drivers. But that’s what Jason different, and that’s why we’ve featured him at CDL Life before.

During his initial Nashville residence, Jason felt frustrated and discouraged with his fledgling career. Aldean gave himself six months before planning to leave Nashville and return home to Georgia. Then five weeks later, he was offered a deal from Broken Bow Records in Nashville. Shortly after the release of his first album, Jason got a break while recording Relentless, finally tasting Nashville country music success.

Since then he’s been on an amazing career arc, touring behind some of country’s biggest acts like Brooks & Dunn and Eric Church.

Today’s cut called “Asphalt Cowboy” comes from Aldean’s self-titled album released in 2005. It was his first effort among the Nashville set, and he really made waves with it. Aldean earned the title of “Top New Male Vocalist” at the 2006 Academy of Country Music Awards. Jason Aldean has sold over one million copies in the United States, and was certified platinum by the RIAA in 2007.
