Formula One Car Lancia D50 The Velocity Channel recently did a special on the Lancia D50, the iconic 1954 race car. The car was designed by Vittorio Jano and was a game changer.  The car’s design made better use of the chassis’ weight distribution and the car featured a more aerodynamic shape. Only six were made.

In 1954, the D50 made its Formula One premier, driven by champion racer Alberto Ascari and was the fastest on the track.

During their competition lifespan D50s were entered into 14 World Championship Formula One Grands Prix, winning five.
