CMV Inspection Planned For Virginia Town

Published:

According to the Culpeper Daily Progress, the Culpeper police, the Virginia State Police, Virginia State Police Motor Carrier Unit troopers, DMV scale crews and DMV special fuel tax agents are teaming up to conduct a CMV inspection campaign in Culpeper, Virginia, later this week.

“We want to ensure that heavy trucks operating on town streets are doing so in compliance with federal and state regulations,” Culpeper Police Chief Chris Jenkins told the Daily Progress.

The town has a lot of foot and truck traffic, the paper said, and authorities want to ensure that the trucks passing though the town are operating safely.  Culpeper Andy Berry said, “There are a lot of brake safety issues on some of those passing trucks.”  He said authorities want to ensure the safety of the Culpeper residents.
“Sacrificing safety can prove deadly,” Sgt. Berry explained. “We are checking for weight, fuel, truck, driver and equipment violations.”

Berry said that previous inspection campaigns have been fruitful, saying that three out of every five inspections resulted in either the driver or the truck being placed out of service.
