Expect roads to be packed this Fourth of July weekend, as an estimated 41 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles or more, according to auto club AAA.
That’s up about 2 percent from the 40.3 million who traveled during last year’s Independence Day.
This could be a frustrating time for truck drivers on a schedule, as they are slowed down by traffic and those in a hurry to reach their destination.
With road trips the most popular vacation option, nearly 85% of Americans plan to drive for the holiday, according to AAA. This will come despite the highest gasoline prices since 2008.
Timeliness may also be contributing to the rise in road trips this year. The 3-day holiday weekend begins on Friday, the 4th of July, and goes through Sunday, July 6th, making it an easy getaway for many travelers.
