Truckin’ Runners Launch 1st Virtual 5K For Charity

Published:

The Truckin’ Runners group is exactly what it sounds like – a group of truck drivers and industry professionals committed to running and exercising. This year, they put together their first ever worldwide Virtual 5K to benefit charity, which runners can complete either on October 25th or 26th.

What the heck is a Virtual 5K, you ask? Simply put, runners of the event run the distance and record their race on a smartphone app, GPS watch, or time themselves on a local track.

The great part about the event is that runners can choose the day and time they want to complete their 5K – anytime either Saturday, October 25th or Sunday the 26th, no matter their location.

And as their website claims, “you don’t have to be an athlete to participate!” There are walker and runner divisions, as well as gender and age divisions. Once the race is complete, just submit your time to the race director to see where you stack up against the other racers.

All participants will receive t-shirs and finishers medals. The money goes towards St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund, which serves ill truck drivers with medical problems that cause financial hardship. Through donations, the fund helps out-of-work drivers with medical bills, prescription drugs, and living expenses. If you’d like to make a donation directly to the fund, visit www.truckersfund.com.
