18,000 Bottles of Wine Smashed In Trucking Accident

Published:

In France last Tuesday, a truck hauling 18,000 bottles of Chateau La Dominique’s fine wine suddenly overturned near Bordeaux, spilling its load across the road and smashing the majority of the bottles.

The truck driver, transporting for Julien et Fils in Libourne, apparently failed to navigate a roundabout in the southern village St-Emilion, when he missed the turn and toppled over. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution but there were no reported injuries.

Police blocked off the area as each wine bottle was removed by hand – most of them damaged or destroyed. A spokesperson for the chateau told Decanter.com that the agency is considering the incident a total loss.
