Authorities Investigating Apparent Murder-Suicide at J.B. Hunt

Published:

On Sunday, Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the J.B. Hunt terminal in Atlanta, Georgia to investigate an apparent murder-suicide.

When authorities arrived, the found the body of 48-year-old J.B. Hunt employee John Malone.

Authorities said that when Malone arrived at work, the woman, with whom Malone had been romantically involved, allegedly confronted him. The two got into a verbal altercation and the woman pulled a gun and allegedly shot Malone at least three times.

Malone died at the scene.

“There were multiple witnesses to the shooting,” Harrell said. “Statements indicate that she apparently produced a handgun and shot Mr. Malone multiple times. She left the scene so we began to look for her vehicle. We found the car in a parking lot about a quarter of a mile away. She was found inside and had suffered what appeared to be a single, self-inflicted gunshot to the chest,” the Douglas County Sentinel reported.

The woman has been identified as Nicole Prater, 41.

While authorities will conduct a full investigation, they say the case appears to be fairly straightforward.

“It appears to be open and shut, but we still have a few loose ends to tie up,” Harrell said. “It’s a tragic thing, but all indications are that it is the result of a relationship that had gone bad that resulted in a murder-suicide.”
