The next phase of construction to repair the heavily travelled Route 611 bridge over Pocono Creek in Pocono Township, Pennsylvania started Thursday, July 24.
Northbound traffic has been detoured between Rimrock Drive/Bartonsville Avenue and Bartonsville Avenue. The detour will utilize Bartonsville Ave. Local access will be maintained and southbound traffic will not be affected, PennDOT said.
According to Engineer Rob Knopf, construction crews are about halfway through the second phase of the $30 million, two-year bridge and surrounding infrastructure enhancement project, which began late August. The project includes repairing beams and replacing the bridge deck.
The project is estimated to have traffic tied up for at least another three to four months. That section of Route 611 has an average daily traffic of around 19,000 vehicles, according to PennDOT records.
“My advice to drivers is to try to use alternate routes and be patient — there will be traffic congestion in that area,” Knopf told The Chronicle Telegram. “This project is necessary for the Chester Road relocation work to be done.”
The 136-foot, 52-feet-wide bridge is currently posted with a weight restriction of 17 tons, 22 for combination, but will be lifted once construction is complete.
