Driver Escapes Injury In David City Train Collision

Published:

One lucky driver escaped injury last Monday night (December 8th) after his trailer struck a train in David City, Nebraska.

The truck, owned by Mark Services Inc. of Valparaiso was traveling westbound on Nebraska 92 when it collided with a train heading southbound on Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway tracks. The crossing passes through a curve on 92, and does not have gates – only crossbucks.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, the driver veered left to avoid the train when the cab was pulled down the tracks on its side for approximately 20 feet.

The male driver whose name has not yet been released was transported to Butler County Health Care Center, and will be alright.

Scattered cases of groceries were pictured littered the scene.

The highway remained open as the David City Volunteer Fire Department lit the scene, and emergency responders were on site as late as 12:30 a.m. waiting for tow trucks to remove the truck from the tracks.

The engineer continued southbound after the accident, and the location of the crash site on the train is not yet known.
