An Oklahoma truck driver died last Wednesday, more than a month after being involved in an accident with a tour bus carrying 37 people on Highway 69 near Pryor, Oklahoma.
Jimmy Griner, 45, of Wyandotte, Oklahoma, was driving southbound on Highway 69 in a 2006 Freightliner when it rear-ended a tour bus that was slowing down to stop at a railroad crossing. The accident happened at 3:30 a.m. on August 14th – one mile south of Pryor in Mayes County.
Griner was pinned in his truck for 40 minutes. After being extracted by first responders, he was flown by air ambulance to St. Francis Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition.
Sadly, Griner died September 17th at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The tour bus was headed from Chicago to Monterrey, Mexico carrying Mexican citizens from various regions. Eleven went to the hospital with injuries, but no one was seriously hurt. All passengers were eventually released.
According to police reports, both drivers of the accident were wearing seat belts. Reports following the incident said the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash.
