Old Dominion Freight Line announced the addition of two new drayage facilities in Dallas and Nashville, which it says are strategically positioned near several major railheads to help accommodate growing domestic and global demands.
“We are delighted to open OD’s first drayage facility in the state of Texas as well an additional facility within Tennessee this year,” Jerry Aaron, Old Dominion’s director of container operations, said in a statement.
Although the company receives most of its revenue from hauling LTL freight, container drayage is a fast-growing part of ODFL’s business. In the past two years, the Thomasville, North Carolina-based trucking company increased it’s drayage terminals from 14 to the current 22 facilities evenly divided between ocean ports on the West and East Coast.
In in 2006, the company introduced OD GLobal, expanding its shipping services from U.S. to Asia.
“If you’re going to be in transportation, you have to think globally and make connections,” David S. Congdon, president and CEO of ODFL, told JOC.com in an interview.
OD Global now traffics full container load shipments directly to or from any point in the country.
“There’s a massive influx of ocean containers coming into the U.S., being transloaded and moved intermodally,” Condgon said. “More and more, they’re moving to short-haul distribution points like Memphis, Atlanta and Dallas,” all cities where ODFL has a drayage shop.
ODFL has offered drayage services in key markets for more than 50 years. National drayage services include inland container pools, loading, unloading and short term warehousing. Earlier this year, ODFL opened drayage terminals in Fort Royal, Virginia and Portland, Oregon.
