OOIDA Kicks off 8th Annual Truckers for Troops

Published:

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association is gearing up of for the 8th annual Truckers For Troops care package campaign.

This week, OOIDA will kick off the campaign.

Truckers for Troops began in 2007. The campaign raises money to pack and send care packages to military personnel who are stationed in combat zones.

Shell Rotella donated $5,000 to help kick off this year’s Truckers for Troops.

Do you know a service member who is deserving or in need of the care package? OOIDA is currently seeking addresses for sending packages and accepting personal cards or letters to include inside the packages.  “Anyone who has a family member or friend serving in a war zone with the U.S. military, and who would like for them to get a care package, can send the name and complete address to [email protected],” an OOIDA press releases states.

“Each year we receive handmade cards or letters from a variety of groups and individuals,” said Norita Taylor, Media Spokesperson for OOIDA. “They add that personal touch to the packages.”

Throughout the week, a Truckers for Troops broacast will be aired on OOIDA’s Land Line Now satellite radio channel on Sirius XM 146.  During the week, drivers can join OOIDA or renew their membership at the discounted rate of $35 and 10% of their membership fee will go toward a care page for a U.S. service person who is stationed in a combat zone.

In addition, OOIDA matches 10% for ever dollar.

Individual donations to Truckers for Troops is tax deductible.

Since its inception, Truckers for Troops has raised more than $406,000 and sent more than 2,500 care packages.

Cards and letters of encouragement may be sent to Attention: Truckers for Troops, P.O. Box 1000, Grain Valley, MO 64029. “Towns or school names can be included, but please do not include last names or other personal information. No particular theme and not necessarily Christmas. Packages will likely go out after the holidays in January or February,” OOIDA states.
