To help promote careers in truck driving, Schneider, one of the nation’s largest trucking companies, has announced that it will offer a Contract Training program for student drivers at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The trucking company will cover all program costs for students seeking Class A commercial driver’s licenses including instruction, behind-the-wheel training with instructors, licensing, and endorsements.
After candidates for the program go through a pre-approval process, Schneider will cover the tuition upon successful completion of the program, which takes about 160 hours to complete in a standard four-week, Monday-Friday schedule.
“Schneider is proud of our long-standing relationship with Ivy Tech Community College, and we’ve hired many of their graduates,” said Rob Reich, senior vice president at Schneider. “Their training meets the highest standards and prepares graduates for the industry.”
The Green Bay, Wisconsin based trucking company employs (or leases to) more than 414 drivers statewide, 90 percent of which get home weekly. A total of 70 percent of the entire fleet gets home weekly or more.
Graduates of Schneider’s training program can earn up to $61,000 in their first year with the company and over $78,000 per year within 3 years.
“Offering these incentives up-front puts students on the fast track to a long and successful career,” said Sherman Johnson, executive director of Ivy Tech’s Corporate College.
In addition to the contract training program at Ivy Tech, Schneider also offers a tuition reimbursement program for graduates of other commercial truck driving schools.
