Spotting Of Abducted Girl At Truck Stop Leads to High Speed Chase

Published:

Ashely Lyon, 16, who was reported missing last week, is now safe and recovering from stab wounds, after a witness recognized the girl at Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete, La. and called the police.

“A person just happened to see it on some newscast they hardly ever watched and recognized the girl,” Iberville Chief Deputy Stephen Engolio said.

When authorities pulled up to the stop a little after 10 p.m, the abductor and sex offender, Steven Patrick Myers, 41, Myers escaped with Lyon.  With police in pursuit, Myers purposely hit 4 cars and was swerving front of 18 wheelers in the chase along Interstate 10, according to reports.

The chase lasted for 40 miles with multiple cars in pursuit. “It appears he had stabbed the victim multiple times, probably during the chase,” Engolio said.

According to reports, Myers emerged from the vehicle worked up with a knife and was ready to fight. Police used a taser and police dog to take him down and then brought him into custody.

Lafayette police say Lyon’s current condition is stable yet serious, and the offender would probably face multiple charges in court including attempted murder.

Here is a video of the pursuit posted on YouTube by witness Doug Fremin:
