Stray Bullet Strikes Driver in the Face in Pennsylvania

Published:

Despite being shot in the face by a stray bullet, truck driver Nick DiGregorio, 66, maintained the presence of mind to call to not only call 911 but to call dispatch to take care of his load– the loyal driver didn’t want to abandon his load.

The incident occurred last Monday in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., DiGregorio was driving along Chester Street.  As he approached a red light at 9th Street, he heard shots.

DiGregorio told Philly News that he thought the sounds might have been fireworks.  As DiGregorio was stopping at the light, he saw a car turn onto 9th Street and witnessed a man shooting at the car.

One of the bullets went through DiGregorio’s windshield and struck him in the face.  The bullet went through his upper lip, hit his tooth and then went into his gums and settled in his upper-left cheek.

DiGregorio told the Philly News that at first, he didn’t realize he had been shot until he saw the blood– He said that the shock must have held the pain at bay.

Despite the horrific injury, DiGregorio managed to called 911 and then made a call to his company.

“I still had freight on the truck,” DiGregorio told Philly News. “I didn’t want the truck to be abandoned.”

DiGregorio was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  Doctors said they want to wait for the swelling in DiGregorio’s face to go down before trying to remove the bullet. He is now recovering and doing well.

DiGregorio is a married after of five, Vietnam War veteran and former police officer.

At this time, no suspect description has been released.
