A truck driver’s quick-thinking and selfless action is being credited with avoiding a potentially tragic crash with a bus.
The incident occurred on last Thursday on Route 7 in Latham, New York.
Martin, a 20-year veteran bus driver, said that as she was nearing the end of her route, she watched an oncoming truck’s tire blowout.
The blowout caused the driver to lose control. The truck crossed the lane, but instead of colliding with the bus, the truck driver steered toward the embankment.
Martin immediately called 911 to get help for the truck driver.
There is no word on the condition of the driver.
“He just had no thought of his own safety at that moment,” she said. “[By] not stepping on the brakes and turning the wheel to avoid us was just self-sacrificing on his part.”
