MTA Bus Driver Killed By Stolen Box Truck Driven By Nephew Of Tyson Beckford

An MTA bus driver who has been identified as William Pena (age 49) was killed today after being thrown from from his M14D bus today in Greenwich Village around 5:30 AM.

The MTA bus was violently hit by a stolen box truck which was being driven by a man identified as Domonic Whilby – the nephew of model, Tyson Beckford.

Photos circulating on Instagram prior to the incident capture Whilby partying with Beckford and Victoria’s Secret supermodel, Shanina Shaik earlier in the morning.

According to authorities, the box truck was stolen from a garage below the Maritime Hotel – close to the location of the birthday party Whilby was attending. A door had been torn from the truck, and skid marks were left on the garage ramp. Witnesses stated that the box truck ran a red light seconds before the crash. Twenty-two-year-old Whilby was taken into custody immediately after being taken to Bellevue Hospital for drug and alcohol testing.

Pena had been a transit worker for seventeen years, and is survived by his wife and fourteen-year-old daughter. According to MTA, Pena was the first of their drivers to have been killed in an accident in more than fourteen years.

Four additional people were injured in the accident, including a bus passenger, the driver of a scooter, a food cart vendor, and a customer of the food card who were clipped by the bus.
