Truck Driver Saves Jailer from Prisoner

Published:

Apollo Oil truck driver Clinton Blackburn happened to be in the right place at the right time last Wednesday in Kentucky.

Spencer County Jailer, Darrell Herndon, was attacked by a prisoner while driving on Blue Grass Parkways.

The prisoner was sitting in the back seat of the patrol car when he escaped from his restraints and got through the safety screen separating the back seat from the front seat. After getting through the safety screen the prisoner began choking the jailer.

Herndon was able to pull the car off onto the shoulder near mile marker 15.

That’s when Blackburn drove past going the opposite direction. He pulled over to help the jailer escape from the car, but the rescue mission didn’t stop there.

When Herndon was getting out of the car the prisoner was able to grab his firearm. Fortunately for Herndon and Blackburn, the prisoner was not familiar with the gun and failed to fire off a shot after several attempts.

Blackburn was then able to remove the gun from the prisoner after a brief struggle and return it to Herndon in time for Nelson County police to show up to assist in the arrest.
