FMCSA To Study Driver Pay, Safe Driving Correlation

Published:

Today, the FMCSA announced the agency’s intent to conduct a study on “the impact of driver compensation on commercial motor vehicle safety.”

The FMCSA is seeking the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for its approval to conduct the study, “‘The Impact of Driver Compensation on Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety,’ to assess the current compensation practices of commercial vehicle drivers and the potential influence this may have on safe commercial vehicle operations.”

The FMCSA says the study will evaluate the relationship between driver compensation and incidences of unsafe driving.

The study will focus on if there is a relationship between driver pay and unsafe driving behavior.  The study will be conducted via online survey.

Carriers will be randomly selected to participate in the study.

The FMCSA says the study will help motor carriers by “enabling them to make informed decisions regarding driver compensation as it relates to safe driving performance,” the FMCSA Federal Register states.

The study’s results will be announced in 2015.
