Lanes Reopening After I-285 Crash That Sent Two Trucks Flying Off Bridge

Published:

Lanes are beginning to reopen following a Sandy Springs, Georgia, crash that sent two trucks flying off of I-285 and landing on Ga. 400.

The accident happened just before noon when a Publix truck and a tanker truck carrying 8,000 gallons of fuel were involved in a crash that sent both of them flying off of the I-285 bridge onto the Ga. 400. The Publix truck overturned when it landed, while the tanker came to rest on its side.

Both truck drivers involved were trapped in their vehicles for some time but were rescued with non-life threatening injuries. They were taken to the hospital.

Police say at least one other person was hurt during the crash.

Firefighters reported that the fuel was contained and there was no leak.

The crash caused serious traffic delays, leaving drivers stuck in traffic for hours while crews cleaned up the crash and tested the structural integrity of the bridge.

All lanes are reopening, but authorities say to expect significant delays.
