Over 700 Volvo Employees To Be Laid Off At Virginia Plant

Published:

Volvo announced that it will lay off 734 employees from its plant in Dublin, Virginia, starting in February.

Company officials say that the layoffs are a result of reduced demand for their long haul trucks.

The Volvo plant in Virginia currently employs 2,800 people and is the largest plant in the world. Volvo is the largest employer in Pulaski county.

The layoffs are expected to take place over a three-week period. Pulaski county government officials have already started work to support laid off employees by teaching interviewing skills and helping with resume writing.

Volvo still plans to spend over $38 million in plant upgrades that will include a 200 seat theater and a customer experience showroom.
