Scam Alert: Arizona Officials Warn Of Fraudulent MVD Websites

Published:

Authorities are warning drivers to be cautious of fraudulent websites that appear to be affiliated with the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) or the state of Arizona.

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich says that the only government-authorized MVD website is www.servicearizona.com. Arizona officials have fielded many complaints from drivers who typed in serviceaz.com on accident, leading them to a site that is not authorized to perform MVD transactions and appears to be run by a third party.

They say other fraudulent websites have been cropping up when users search for the terms MVD or DMV. Authorities warn that drivers may believe that they have performed a routine action on the official government site only to learn that they have accidentally purchased an unwanted item from one of these fraudulent sites.

Mark Brnovich offers several tips to help drivers avoid being the victim of an online scam.

  1. Before you enter any personal information, make sure that the browser has a lock icon to help ensure that your information is secure.
  2. Be cautious of clicking on links that come in email.
  3. When in doubt about whether a website is legitimate, call the agency to make sure.

If you believe that you’ve been a victim of a scam, you can contact the Arizona Attorney General’s office at www.azag.gov/complaints/consumer.
