Emphasis Patrol To Use Plane To Monitor Truck Drivers In Washington

Published:

The Washington State Patrol will use a plane outfitted with a camera as part of an emphasis patrol targeting truck drivers.

Emphasis Patrol Meant to Reduce Accidents

In an effort to reduce the number of highway accidents, the WSP will be taking a closer look at truck drivers starting today. They say that they are looking for dangerous driving behaviors like drunken driving, distracted driving, following too closely, seatbelt violations, defective equipment. Troopers also say that they’ll be looking for aggressive motorists who force truck drivers into dangerous situations. Troopers on the ground can use the camera to monitor highway activity and track down violators.

Troopers Say Plane Is Important Enforcement Tool

The WSP says that the plane is a useful tool because it allows them to spot violations that they might not otherwise be able to see. They also say it allows them to concentrate their forces, helping them to increase enforcement with fewer troopers.
