I-35 is closed in both directions in Dilley, Texas, around mile marker 79 after a police pursuit led to a standoff with an armed man.

The pursuit began when police tried to make a routine stop after the suspect ran a stop sign.

The armed suspect fled from them on I-35, eventually coming to a halt near Dilley when a tire blowout forced him to continue fleeing on foot. Texas Rangers are on the scene attempting to negotiate with the suspect.

The suspect has a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The standoff began early this morning and is continuing past its 7th hour. Frustrated drivers in both directions have waited hours for the standoff to come to a conclusion.
