Authorities Searching For Witnesses In Accident That Left Truck Driver Dead

Published:

According to a press release from the New York State Police, authorities are investigating a crash that occurred in Clifton Park, New York this week that left a truck driver dead.

The accident occurred on May 11, at approximately 8:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 87, just south of exit 10.

“The preliminary investigation has determined that the tractor- trailer was traveling in the left passing lane and side swiped the Volkswagon Golf which was in the center lane. The collision caused the Volkswagon to spin out, coming to rest on the right shoulder,” the New York State Police press release states.

“The tractor- trailer then struck the median side guiderail, overturned and came to rest in the center median.”

The truck driver, Michael A. Cenate, 75, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the VW suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Authorities have been investigating the crash and would like to speak with the driver of a blue sedan, possibly a Mazda, which they believe was in the area at the time of the accident.  They believe the driver of the blue sedan may have been a witness to the crash.

New York State Police would also like to speak with anyone who may have been in the area, or have seen the blue sedan, around the time of the crash.

The State Police in Clifton Park can be reached at 518-383-8583 or at the 24 hour contact line 518-583-7000.
