CMVD Trooper Severely Hurt After Rear Ending Truck

Published:

An Indiana State Trooper sustained severe injuries in a crash involving a truck this morning on I-80 in Lake Station.

According to a news release from Indiana State Police, the Trooper “failed to slow for another vehicle in the center lane”.

Trooper Jacob Raupp, 26, was driving west on I-80 when his police Chevy Tahoe slammed into the back of a truck pulling a flatbed trailer. The truck and the rest of the traffic on I-80 had slowed for unknown reasons. The impact of the crash was severe enough to critically injure Raupp, who was transported by helicopter to a local hospital.

There is no word on the nature of Raupp’s injuries.

The 51-year-old truck driver, Terry D. Shaw, was not hurt during the crash. Shaw drives for Circle W Inc. Trucking out of Center, Missouri.

All lanes were closed at 11 a.m. for the crash but reopened by 11:30.

Raupp works for the Commercial Motor Vehicle Division of the Indiana State Police.
