Family Says Werner Could Have Done More To Prevent Trainee Stabbing Trainer

Published:

The Werner trainee allegedly responsible for stabbing his trainer to death at a rest stop near Saldano, Texas last Thursday is now being held on a $1 million bond.

Family Says Driver Reported Trainee’s Odd Behavior

62-year-old Ronald Ruiz was reportedly stabbed several times in the chest and stomach by 46-year-old Stanley Polk — and Ruiz’s family says that Werner could have done more to prevent the murder.

Ruiz’s daughter said that her father had complained to Werner about Polk’s erratic behavior and dangerous driving habits. Werner told him to hang on until he made it to the Indianapolis terminal — but the pair never made it. His family also said that Ruiz, who was a Viet Nam veteran, mentioned that there was something off about Polk’s behavior. His daughter said that her father really wanted Polk off his truck.

Trucking Family Devastated by Tragedy

Ruiz’s granddaughter just got her CDL and planned to drive the country with her grandfather before he was scheduled to retire in 2017. Polk would have been Ruiz’s last trainee before joining his granddaughter in the truck.

Polk has been charged with first-degree murder and is in jail with a $1 million bond.
