80 Vehicle Pile Up Reported In Grand Rapids

Published:

Winter weather is being called a factor in a reported 80 plus vehicle pile up in Grand Rapids, Michigan today.

Whiteout conditions are considered to be a factor in the pile up which began on US-131 between 14 Mile Road and 17 Mile Road near Grand Rapids around 2:30 p.m.

Southbound lanes of US-131 are shut down while crews work to clean up the pile up.

Northbound US-131 is also closed because of a crash involving a tanker truck. Reports say the tanker tried to climb an icy hill but couldn’t make it. The tanker was then hit by other vehicles.

There is at least one serious injury reported involving the driver of a pickup truck on I-131.

Officials say the roads are extremely slick. They ask drivers to avoid US-131 if possible.
