Drone Crashes Into Truck Outside New Jersey Oil Refinery

Published:

Security questions have been raised after a man crashed a drone into a truck outside of the Phillips 66 oil refinery in Linden, New Jersey on Wednesday.

Security Spots Drone in Restricted Area

Security guards spotted the man flying his drone and told him he was in a restricted area. The man then accidentally crashed the drone into a truck. The truck driver got out and exchanged words with the man. The man then grabbed the drone and drove off before anyone could stop him.

The FBI and local police worked together to investigate the incident.

Police Choose Not to Press Charges

Police later located the man but chose not to file charges against him. They have not released his identity.

Authorities have named the refinery as a potential terrorist target because of its relative proximity to the New Jersey Turnpike as well as the amount of petroleum on site.

There are currently no federal guidelines for charging a person for operating a drone in a restricted area.
