Megaload To Cause Traffic Delays In Atlanta

Published:

The Georgia DOT warns motorists to expect delays because of a 638,000 pound “Megaload” that will be traveling through metro Atlanta Wednesday and Thursday nights.

The Megaload consists of a machine press and it is 250 feet long, 16 feet wide, and 14 feet tall. The load will take up two lanes of traffic and requires two Georgia police escorts. It can travel up to 45 mph, but will need to slow to 5 mph on certain bridges.

The end destination for the Megaload is Voestalpine Automotive Body Parts in Barstow County.

If you want to catch a glimpse of the Megaload (or avoid it at all costs), here is its planned route:

At 7 pm on Wednesday, the Megaload will travel west from Columbia County on the Georgia Coast to Newton County on I-20. The Megaload will stay in Newton County overnight before resuming its journey at 8:00 PM Thursday, when it will move along I-20 west through DeKalb County and then north on I-75 northbound through Fulton and Cobb counties before ending its journey is Barstow County.

You can also follow the Megaload via the Georgia DOT’s Twitter page.
