Beware Of Cargo Theft During Thanksgiving Week

Published:

Authorities are urging truck drivers to use extra caution during Thanksgiving week when cargo theft traditionally rises dramatically.

From 2012 to 2014, criminals stole $6 million worth of cargo during Thanksgiving week. Thefts tend to start rising on Monday and Tuesday, hitting their ultimate high on Wednesday before gradually decreasing to normal levels through the rest of the week.

Texas is the state where the most cargo theft takes place, followed by California.

In 39% of cargo theft incidents, the load was left unattended and unchecked for two or more days.

According to the data collected, parking lots and warehouses are the most frequent locations for cargo theft, followed by truck stops.

The most common items stolen during Thanksgiving week are nonalcoholic beverages and meat products, followed by metals such as copper.
