Truck Driver Fired For Grabbing Protester

Published:

A truck driver has been fired after allegedly attacking a protester at a soil dump site on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.

Protesters Delay Truck Drivers for Hours

For weeks now, protesters have been arriving every morning and attempting to block trucks carrying contaminated soil from entering the dump site in Vancouver Island’s Shawnigan Lake, claiming that the permit to dump was obtained through illegitimate means. The protesters have been holding up dozens of trucks for hours each day.

Frustration seems to have gotten the better of a man reportedly working as a subcontracted truck driver for Wee Bee Hauling out of Victoria. In a video shared on Twitter, the truck driver appears to grab a woman by the back of her neck, forcing her head down. Other protesters stepped in to help diffuse the situation, but the woman claims she was traumatized by the incident.

Driver Fired, But No Charges Filed

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigated the incident as an assault, but no charges have yet been filed.

According to local reports, the truck driver was fired after the alleged assault.
