Truck Hits Three Overpasses Before Stopping

Published:

A truck hauling a railroad crane hit three overpasses on westbound I-94 in Moorhead, Minnesota on Sunday at 11:45 a.m. before coming to a stop.

According to the Highway Patrol, the driver first hit the 34th street overpass, then drove another mile before hitting a railroad overpass and then the 20th street overpass in quick succession before the crane became dislodged from the truck and fell onto the shoulder of the interstate.

There were no injuries, but traffic was snarled and the bridge decks suffered some structural damage. The 20th street overpass was damaged badly enough that officials closed it through Sunday afternoon.

The 26-year-old truck driver, Wayne Thompson of Iowa, was issued an over-height violation. The truck he drove was registered to BNSF Railway.
