Evel Knievel’s Mack Truck Steals The Spotlight At Movie Premiere

Published:

The Hollywood premiere of the movie “Being Evel,” a documentary which chronicles the life of legendary daredevil Evel Knievel, was a star-studded event. Some of Hollywood’s most notorious actors, athletes and daredevils were all in attendance, but all eyes were on the premiere’s main star: Knievel’s fully restored 1974 Mak FS786LST.

Knievel’s truck was hauled by a 70-inch high-rise Mack Pinnacle. Both the Pinnacle and Knievel’s FS are known as “Big Red.”

“Mack provided two Mack Pinnacle highway models as part of a recently announced partnership with Evel Knievel Enterprises and Historic Harley-Davidson of Topeka, Kansas to help transport the definitive collection of Knievel memorabilia, including Big Red, to stops across the country, helping bring the daredevil’s legacy to a new generation of fans,” Mack Trucks states.

The trucks were on display at the premiere of the movie.  VIP’s, including stars, were able to tour the famous trucks.

Big Red has been lovingly and painstakingly restore.  The truck was discovered in a salvage yard in Clearwater, Florida. The truck was restored by Lathan McKay of Evel Knievel Enterprises and Historic Harley-Davidson. Big Red is now a traveling museum which displays Knievel’s motorcycles, leathers, helmets, medical X-rays, casts and other memorabilia.

“Seeing Evel’s restored Mack FS model in the film, then experiencing the rig in real life, adds a great dimension to Evel’s fascinating story,” said John Walsh, Mack vice president of marketing. “Not just anyone can be depended upon to haul a legend, and what better choice than a present-day Mack Pinnacle model to deliver Big Red to the premiere.”

The movie was produced Jackass star Johnny Knoxville, professional skateboarder Tony Hawk and motorsports star Travis Pastrana.

The film documents Knievel’s early life to his rise to fame as a world-famous stuntman. It includes some never before seen video footage of Knievel.

“Being Evel” opens in select cities on Aug. 21.
