According to the American Trucking Association, truck driver turnover rose to its highest rate in three years at large carriers.
The ATA’s data from the third quarter of 2015 showed that truck driver turnover rose 13 points to reach 100% for carriers with more than $30 million in annual revenue.
On the other hand, the turnover rate at smaller carriers (those who earn less than $30 million in annual revenue) reached a four-year low of 68%.
For comparison, the turnover rate at less than truckload fleets was about 10% during this period, down from an average of 11% in 2014.
The ATA cautions against drawing too many conclusions from one data point, but admits that the “increase in the turnover rate at large carriers matches up with what we’ve been hearing anecdotally from fleets: that the market for drivers continues to be tight.”
