Date Set For Jimmy Haslam’s Pilot Flying J Fraud Deposition

Published:

A date has finally been set for Pilot Flying J CEO Jimmy Halsam to answer questions about his involvement in a fraud scheme that cheated truckers out of promised rebates.

Haslam will sit for a video taped deposition on December 13. The deposition will continue day to day until it is completed, according to attorney Charles Cooper, who is representing a trucking company that is suing Haslam. This comes in spite of the fact that Haslam’s lawyers asserted that their client would only be available for a single day seven hour deposition.

Pilot Flying J has been sued by trucking companies all across the U.S. after a 2013 FBI raid at the company’s corporate headquarters led to charges the employees conspired to commit rebate fraud. Ten Pilot employees have already pled guilty to the charges and eight still await trial.

Haslam has been reluctant to answer questions under oath about the rebate fraud scandal. He has maintained that he had no knowledge of the scheme and he has not been personally charged.

An attorney for Wright Transportation said of deposing Haslam, “He’s never, ever had to sit under oath live and answer the hard questions about his knowledge and his participation with regard to the fraud.”
